Frequently asked questions
- Why is DC charging so much faster than AC?
- AC home/destination chargers deliver 7–22 kW; DC fast chargers deliver 50–150 kW or more, so they add the same energy in a fraction of the time.
- Why does the last 20% take so long?
- To protect the battery, DC charging slows sharply above ~80%. On a road trip, charging to 80% is usually the sweet spot.
- Is the estimate exact?
- It's a linear estimate assuming ~90% charging efficiency. Real time varies with the car's charge curve, battery temperature and how a station shares power between cars.
