VIN Generator & Decoder

Generate a valid 17-character vehicle chassis number (VIN) to the ISO 3779 standard — correct check digit, real Thailand-assembly manufacturer codes, EV makes too — and decode or validate any VIN.

17-character VIN (chassis number)

This number is randomly generated for software testing and learning the VIN structure only. It is not tied to any real vehicle — never use it to forge documents or for any unlawful purpose.

About this tool

A VIN (chassis number) is the unique 17-character code that identifies a vehicle worldwide, defined by the international ISO 3779 standard — think of it as a car’s “ID number.” It tells you who built the vehicle, where, in which year, and which unit it was off the line. This tool does two things: it generates a standards-correct VIN, and it decodes and validates a VIN you already have.

Each of the 17 characters is meaningful. Positions 1–3 are the World Manufacturer Identifier (WMI) — the first character marks the region (vehicles built in Thailand start with M). Positions 4–8 describe the model, body and engine. Position 9 is the check digit derived from all the others. Position 10 is the model-year code, position 11 is the assembly plant, and positions 12–17 are the production serial. This tool breaks every section out clearly and always computes a correct check digit.

Generate mode is built for developers and QA teams who need mock chassis numbers for forms or database tests, while validate mode instantly confirms whether a VIN “passes the standard.” Every number here is generated for testing and learning only and isn’t tied to a real vehicle. Need to check a Thai ID too? Try the Thai ID validator or generate a PromptPay QR.

How to use

  1. 1Pick the “Generate VIN” tab to create a chassis number, or “Decode / validate” to check one you already have.
  2. 2In generate mode, choose a make (built in Thailand) and model year, or leave both random, then press “Regenerate”.
  3. 3Copy the 17-character VIN to use as test data for forms, systems or databases.
  4. 4In validate mode, paste a VIN and see instantly whether it’s valid, with every position broken down (manufacturer, region, year, check digit).

Frequently asked questions

What is a VIN (chassis number)?
A VIN (Vehicle Identification Number), or chassis number, is a unique 17-character code assigned to every vehicle under the international ISO 3779/3780 standard. It encodes the manufacturer, country/region, model year, assembly plant and production sequence. You’ll find it stamped on the chassis, the door jamb, the dashboard and in the registration book.
Are the generated VINs actually valid?
They’re structurally valid: 17 characters, no I/O/Q, a real Thailand-assembly manufacturer code (WMI) such as Toyota (MR0), Honda (MRH) or Isuzu (MPA), a correct model-year code, and — crucially — a position-9 check digit computed by the official formula, so they pass VIN validation. They are randomly generated and not tied to any real vehicle.
What is the position-9 check digit?
It’s a self-check that proves a VIN wasn’t mistyped. It’s computed from the other 16 characters by weighting each position and taking the sum modulo 11 (a remainder of 10 becomes the letter X). If it doesn’t match, the VIN is wrong or fake. This tool computes and verifies it automatically.
What is it useful for?
It’s ideal for developers and QA teams who need realistic test data, for filling forms, testing VIN validation, or learning what each character of a chassis number means. It must never be used to pass off a fake as a real vehicle or to forge documents.
Can I check my own car’s VIN?
Yes — paste the chassis number from your registration book or the car into the “Decode / validate” tab and it will tell you whether the structure is valid, which region it’s from, the approximate model year, and whether the check digit matches. (It does not connect to any vehicle-history database.)
