Common conversions you'll meet in Thailand: a driving licence that expires in 2570 BE is valid to 2027 CE; someone born in 2540 BE was born in 1997; and documents dated 2481 BE or earlier can be off by one year because Thailand's new year used to start on 1 April — which is exactly why some sources mention a 544 difference. - How do you convert พ.ศ. to ค.ศ.?
- Subtract 543 from the Buddhist-era year to get the Gregorian year — e.g. 2569 − 543 = 2026. To go the other way, add 543.
- Why do some sources use 543 and others 544?
- Everyday year conversion always uses 543. The 544 difference only applied to Jan–Mar in the past, when Thailand's new year began in April. The modern standard is 543.
- Can I use it for a Thai ID birth year?
- Yes. Thai ID years are Buddhist-era; type one on the left to get the Gregorian year for foreign forms or sites that use ค.ศ.
